Welcome to Shy Violet Photography – Cake Smashing since 2010!
And even though it’s been 12 years of Cake Smash Photoshoots, they are just as much fun as they have always been. Probaby more so, as these photoshoot have evolved over the last 12 years and since 2105 incorporate wooden letters O N and E, the cake smash and then the Tub Splash. – this I call my 3-in-1 HAPPIMESS Photoshoot.
It’s just the best and fun way to celebrate the 1st Birthday…. Letting them loose on a big bright and very gooey cake – what could be more fun? Watching their reactions and capturing them on camera is priceless.

Welcome to Shy Violet Photography – where we have been Cake Smashing since 2010! It’s a long time and about time I introduced something a little bit different.
So here it is … I’ve introduced a new idea for the cake smash for the girls … ushing hoops and leaves and flowers – and a new ‘Naked Cake’ for a more girly feel too. No balloons, pompoms or bunting in this one although these are of course still a choice for girls and boys.
It’s still the same FUN FUN FUN 3-in-1 Happimess Cake Smash Photoshoot and it still incorpates the wooden letters, the cake smash and the Tub and bubbles but with a very floral girly feel.
The cake smash photo shoot is the best fun way to celebrate your little one’s 1st Birthday…. Letting them loose on a big bright and very gooey cake – what could be more fun? I’d like to welcome you to Shy Violet Photography,
After the newborn shoot, I feel the next best stage is the 5-6 month ‘sitter’ stage – babies are usually at the smiley giggly stage and it’s very easy to get their attention at this age and make them laugh.
‘Everything My Baby Is’ … is a new baby photoshoot created by myself and my step daughter … You give me 12 words *minimum) to describe your baby and I devise a photo shoot around their chaacter to create a beautiful hand-crafted photoook.
Not only is it a beautiful keepsake photobook/album, coffee table style with each page a few mm thick … it can also be used to teach your baby about themselves and what these words mean to them and you. And because each page is so strong, the book will probably still be as good for your grandchildren 🙂 🙂
Below is Delilah – she is 6 months old here – the are the pages from her photobook (which at the time of this blog is still at the priners). Each image shows one spread (2 pages).

I’d like to welcome you to Shy Violet Photography, run by me, Gaynor and I’ve been specialising in Newborn photography since 2006.
My newborn photoshoots, are very informal and relxed. On your arrival I will make you a cuppa and we will discuss your requirements for your Newborn Photoshoot and you can choose from the many blankets, outfits, hats and props on offer. You can be fully involved in the shoot if you wish, perhaps even having a few photos with your newborn baby …but this is up to you. Or you can just chill out on one of our sofas and relax whilst I get to work.
You will see form the website gallery – click here to view, that I offer the option of the simpler newborn baby shots with blankets and hats/headbands and teddies … and also the more creative Newborn Art images … We can incorpate both in your Photoshoot if this is something you would like. We do have lots of little outfits and hats and headbands and teddies … some of which can be seen in the timage gallery.

Our favourite time to capture them is betwen 6 and 12 days… and we do say up to 4 weeks for the newborn photoshoot. Although we have had some wonderful results with babies over 4 weeks, who were perhaps born early and are still sleeping well after feeds … so if this is your baby, please get in touch.

You do not lose your deposit if we do have to rearrange. It’s always best to book in advance to secure your 2-3 hours slot. “Everything My baby Is” Photoshoot and Book
I absolutely love the 1st birthday Cake Smash experience and have been providing Cake Smash Photoshoots for 12 years. These are still very popular indeed, but I thought it was time I introduced something NEW for babies – from 6 months but an ideal 1st Birthday Photoshoot.
My new idea is a Photobook – entitled “Everything My Baby Is”. You as the parent give me words to describe your baby and the photoshooti is then based around these words. For exdample Delilah came to the studio at 7 months and her Mum chose: Cute, Confident, Clever, Loving, Fun Loving, Playful, Adorable, Cheeky, Happy, A Diva and Loved. Pics attached below of the book page spreads.
I provide a lot of the props for these Baby Photoshoots, and you bring outfits and favourite toys, teddies, books – all of which we discuss prior to the Photoshoot date.
The idea is that you then use this Photobook to teach your baby the words … how to be Confident … Clever,… Loving and so on. These books can be done for baby’s from 5-6 months and up and an excellent alternative to the Cake Smash for the 1st Birthday PhotoShoot.

Up to 2 weeks is preferred but my Newborn Baby PhotoShoots go up to babies who are 4 weeks young but if your baby is slightly older and still sleeping well after feeds, please feel free to call me to discuss.

If you are thinking about booking a Baby Photo Shoot, how about one of our NEW Rainbow & Sparkles Photoshoots.
These shoots can be done from the age of 5-6 months and are a great way to celebrate the 1st Birthday as an alternative to the Cake Smash 🙂
From 5 to 6 months, your baby is learning to sit up and although perhaps not able to sit up unaided, we have baby chairs that can help with this, and PhotoShop which can edit out parents’ arms making sure they don’t fall. And at this age, personality is really taking shape and it’s an age I just love to photograph.
My studio baby photo sessions are very relaxed in a lovely warm, bright and airy environment, specially designed so that it looks like a soft play area for your baby – soft toys and props are on show in the studio so you have lots of choice for your photoshoot.
We can use as many props as you like or no props … the choice is yours and all props can be seen dotted aroudn the studio so you can choose on the day to use or not.
We can incorporate bubbles too or balooons to provide entertainment for your little one.
On arrival, we discuss the shots that you’d like before we start. Nyla came to see me at just 8 days old … but even still at this sooooo young age, she was very alert and didn’t seem to want to miss anything that was going on. We did get some lovely shots but a lot of htese were awake shots as she seemed very relaxed … almost enjoying herself … images below …

Freddie came to Shy Violet Photography to celebrate his 1st birthday with a cake smash … which we call our ‘HAPPIMESS’ 3-in1 1st Birthday Cake Smash photoshoot.
It’s just the best and fun way to celebrate the 1st Birthday…. Letting them loose on a big bright and very gooey cake – what could be more fun? Watching their reactions and capturing them on camera is priceless.
Freddie’s photoshoot was extraordinary … I’ve been offering cake smash photoshoots since 2010 and they all take somewhere in the region of an hour to an hour and a half … Freddie’s whole shoot including ONE letters and Tub following the cake smash was 26 minutes!!! Not me or Feddie’s parents could belive it … but he was just perfect – he did it all so well and we got soooooo many fantastic images – when I look at these now I still cannot believe just how well it all went. Pics below.
As always I started with our wooden letters spelling ONE (which I turned to his colour scheme post shoot edit – pic below) … And then it was time for the Cake Smash… Freddie loved his cake smash – giggling with delight at times! He loved banging his cake like a drum and throwing his arms in the air in victory. After he’d had enough of cake smashing, we then put him into our mini roll top bath where he splashed about for ages – playing with the bubbles and nearly flooding the studio 🙂
These 1st birthday cake smash photo shoots are fab! Sooooo much fun for your baby and for you as the parents … and for me too!
